NBSZ turns to social media to educate public on importance of donating blood

The National Blood Service Zimbabwe ( NBSZ), an organization that offers services in blood collection from blood donors and blood processing, has turned to social media platforms as another means of communication to educate the nation on the importance of blood donation.

The NBSZ decided to use social media platforms and hosted educational shows on its social media platforms which serves a crucial purpose in raising awareness and promoting the significance of blood donation.

Speaking on the organization’s decision to turn to social media, NBSZ Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Lucy Marowa, said that they decided to use social media platforms as another tool to communicate with the nation because it has become a powerful tool for reaching a wider audience and disseminating essential information to the people.

“In today’s digital era, social media has become a powerful tool for reaching a wider audience and as such, we will be disseminating essential information such as this one on blood donation,” said Ms Marowa.

“By utilizing various platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), National Blood Service Zimbabwe can effectively engage with the public and address other common misconceptions and concerns related to blood donation,” continued the CEO.

Ms Marowa said through these efforts, National Blood Service Zimbabwe hopes to create a more informed and engaged Nation and Community that recognizes the critical need for regular blood donations.

“Our social media campaign is an important tool in reaching out to a wider audience and raising awareness about donating blood which plays a crucial role in helping those who need blood at the correct time,” said Marowa.

National Blood Service Zimbabwe leverages platforms such as Facebook, and Twitter so that it can educate the Nation and communities about the impact of donating blood and inspire them to participate in this life-saving act.

NBSZ is an organization dedicated to the collection, processing, and distribution of blood and blood products in Zimbabwe. It was established with the mission to ensure the availability of safe and adequate blood and blood products to meet the needs of all patients in Zimbabwe. The organization operates static clinics and mobile teams to conduct blood drives at various locations throughout the country, including corporations, churches, and shopping centers. NBSZ also emphasizes the importance of community involvement and partnership in the collection of blood, especially during festive seasons

The NBSZ offers services that include blood collection where the organization collects and withdraws blood from donors as part of disease management, blood processing where NBSZ processes the collected blood to ensure its safety and suitability for transfusion and blood distribution where It distributes the processed blood and blood products to meet the needs of patients in Zimbabwe as well as quality assessment where the organization assesses the quality of service offered to blood donors and makes appropriate recommendations for improvement where necessary.
