Prophet T Freddy’s trial on rape accusations resumed yesterday at the Harare Magistrates Court, with an audio recording in which a female voice alleged to be that of the complainant being heard confessing to having fabricated rape charges to fix the accused, played in court as evidence.
In the recording, a female voice believed to be that of the accuser is heard confessing to having fabricated rape charges out of anger and bitterness, warning the accused that she will fix him once and for all.
“…I am planning my things carefully and even if you hire lawyers from Germany they will not be able to help you,” the voice is heard as saying, to which the accused responded that he knew that she was planning to threaten and blackmail him (with rape charges).
“Ndakaona kuti wakanga usisade zverelationship and I began to hate you. I was so heartbroken. Ndopakauya nyaya yerape ipapo. (when I saw that there was no longer any relationship between us I was so heartbroken and this is where the rape charges emanated from),” the audio recording added.
During cross-examination, Freddy’s accuser, however, discredited the evidence claiming that the voice in the recording was not hers and she had nothing to do with that recording despite having authenticated other audios played in court.
Regarding the four nude selfies rendered as evidence in court, the complainant only accepted one claiming that she was not the person on the other photos.
The defence team argued that she was fabricating charges against their client as she only reported the rape accusations when it was clear that the accused wanted to terminate the relationship in order to instil fear on the accused person who had opened an extortion case against her.
The accused, who is also being charged with assault and emotional abuse, claimed that he decided to terminate the relationship after discovering that her accuser was cheating on him with one ZBC boss and another musician (names supplied).
The accused person also denied using any supernatural powers to victimise the complainant but claimed his accuser came up with the idea as an afterthought to spice her accusations and strengthen her evidence to tarnish his good name.
The prosecutor and defence team also cross-examined the second witness Florence Zimbali who is the complainant’s aunt while the first witness one Gibson Jaji who is a police officer and Chief Chikwaka are expected to testify on 19 January.
The court also noted inconsistencies in the complainant’s two statements recorded at Harare Central Police Station and Marlborough Police Station respectively.
