Zimbabwe Community Trailblazers Awards: Engineer Kachirekwa honoured with Clean Energy Champion Award

Alternative energy specialist, Engineer Edzai Kachirekwa was last Friday honoured with yet another prestigious award — the Zimbabwe Community Trailblazers Awards (ZCTA) 2023 (fourth edition) where he took home the Distinguished Clean Energy Champion Award.

This comes after he clinched the Top Five Innovators of The Year 2023 Award and the Leading Client Engagement Professional who personifies Impeccable Professional Standards award at the Annual National Iconic Entrepreneurs Awards and the Professional Excellence Awards 2023 respectively. He was also recently appointed National Secretary for the Entrepreneurs Network of Zimbabwe (ENZ), organizers of the prestigious Annual National Iconic Entrepreneurs Awards.

The fourth edition of the ZCTA awards was held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) in the capital under the banner “Promoting a healthy and mutually Supportive Community”.

The event saw scores of personalities and organisations in the health, education, sports, media, arts and business fraternities being recognised for having positively impacted communities.

In honouring Kachirekwa, Perfection Media, the event organisers said, “The judges were particularly impressed by your trailblazing achievements as a business leader in the energy sector who has shown inspiring leadership, strong individual commitment and made a significant impact by engaging positively with local communities and Zimbabwe’s energy supply chains as a force for change in the provision of energy through initiatives that deliver significant community benefits.”

Speaking to this publication on the sidelines of the event, Engineer Kachirekwa, who is also Power Giants Operations Director and Afro Eurasia Energy Centre president said, “I’m overwhelmed by such recognition. It shows that our noble efforts in trying to push for an independent and sustainable energy energy-self-reliant nation are making a desirable impact. We will continue to push and rally the nation towards a common goal of maintaining a clean and carbon-free environment.”

Prominent individuals who were recognised are Trauma Centre proprietor and medical doctor, Vivek Solanki; Professor Jacob Mufunda (Dean at GZU Medical School); real estate magnate, Ken Sharpe; and cricket star Sikandar Raza, among several others.

Arts personalities who were honoured include Zimdancehall singer Freeman; yesteryear musician-cum-actor John ‘Chibhodoro’ Muyambo; veteran poet Albert Nyathi; and gospel musician Reverend Togarepi Chivaviro.

The Zimbabwe Mining Development Company; Red Cross Zimbabwe; and Old Mutual Zimbabwe are among the corporates who were honoured for their corporate social responsibility work.

In the News Media category, Spiked Online Media emerged as one of the best sources of reliable and accurate community news clinching the Outstanding Community Newspaper gong.

The glamorous event was well attended by dignitaries who included senior government officials and captains of industry and respected guests among them Primary and Secondary Education minister Torerai Moyo; Norton former legislator Temba Mliswa; Pastor Ruth Musarurwa; and the Secretary for Presidential Affairs in the Office of the President, Engineer Tafadzwa Muguti, who was the guest of honour.
