Zimbabwe takes center stage in a groundbreaking video series titled Climate Action Explained, spotlighting exemplary initiatives worldwide in combatting climate change. This initiative comes at a crucial moment as countries grapple with the escalating impacts of climate change.

The series, featuring four compelling narratives, delves into the human dimension of climate action, narrated by esteemed Game of Thrones actor and by UNDP’s Goodwill Ambassador,  Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. It underscores the imperative to amplify existing climate solutions to ensure a sustainable and resilient future amidst mounting environmental challenges.

Dr. Ayodele Odusola, Resident Representative at UNDP Zimbabwe, remarked, “Zimbabwe’s inclusion in this esteemed video series signifies the nation’s proactive stance in addressing climate change impacts. Through collaborative efforts, we are showcasing tangible strides towards a greener and more sustainable future.”

Highlighting the urgency of the climate crisis, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau stated, “The stories highlighted in the Climate Action Explained series underscore our capacity to combat climate change and pave the way for a safer world. Progress is not only feasible but imperative in these critical times.”

The Climate Action Explained series, featuring Zimbabwe alongside 11 other countries from diverse continents, is a testament to global solidarity in tackling climate change challenges. These narratives offer insights into adaptation strategies, forest restoration, renewable energy deployment, and empowering youth in driving climate action.

This initiative aligns with UNDP’s commitment to catalyze public discourse and galvanize action on climate change ahead of the COP30 climate negotiations scheduled for 2025 in Brazil. As the world prepares to revisit climate commitments, the series underscores the pivotal role of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in advancing the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

The Zimbabwe segment of the series spotlights collaborative efforts between the Government through the Ministry of Health and Child Care and UNDP, exemplified by the Solar for Health initiative. Through support from the Global Fund, over 1,040 hospitals are now equipped with solar power, bolstering critical healthcare services amid climate-induced challenges.

As Zimbabwe grapples with the adverse impacts of climate change, exemplified by phenomena like the El Nino effect, collaborative endeavours are essential for resilience-building and sustainable development.
