Adesina vindicated by the Bureau of Governors of the AfDB

The African Development Bank (AfDB)’s Whistleblowers in contravention of bank rules, regulations, and laws provided not a single piece of evidence compared to 250 pages of official supporting documentation by President Akunwumi Adesina.

The Bureau of Board of Governors upheld the conclusions of the decision in Adesina’s favour.

An Independent reviewer will now take a dispassionate look at the process by which the Ethics Committee of the Board and the Bureau of the Board of Governors came to its rulings.

The later part of the communique now calls for a review of the Whistleblower policy to ensure that something like this never happens again

“The Bureau reiterates that it agrees that the Ethics Committee of the Board of Directors performed its role in this matter in accordance with the applicable Rule under Resolution B/BG/2008/11 of the Board of Governors.

“The Bureau also reiterates that the Chairperson of the Bureau of the Board of Governors performed her role in accepting the findings of the Ethics Committee in accordance with the said Resolution…

“The Bureau agrees that, within a three to six month period and following the independent review of the Ethics Committee Report, an independent comprehensive review of the implementation of the Bank Group’s Whistleblowing and Complaints Handling Policy should be conducted with a view to ensuring that the Policy is properly implemented, and revising it where necessary, to avoid situations of this nature in future,” read a part of the Communique signed by Ms Niale Kaba, the AfDB Chairperson of the Bureau of Boards of Governors
