Dancers face off in street cypher

Bulawayo came alive yesterday as dancers billed to compete in the Jibilika dance finals took it to the street giving the city a glimpse of what to expect in the finals this afternoon.

The dancers jammed to different music, switching from genre to genre testing each other’s skills and strength. But it was a Bulawayo solo dancer, TK who stole the all the limelight with his electric showcase of different styles.

The youthful dancer had the crowd holding their breathes with seemingly impossible moves but executed with such nerve wrecking and exhilarating flair. His B-Boy moves were well curated and refreshingly different while his break dance left tongues wagging.

A great showcase also came from Haleem Strings, a US dancer who is one of the adjudicators of the festival. Tall as he is, the crowd did not expect him to waltzamazing b-boy moves that gave dancer an insight on the making of a professional. Easy going and humble, the revered dancer had the crowd go home with a story to tell.

Meanwhile, the second and final day of the festival is expected to be explosive as 110 dancers from across Zimbabwe battle with an eye on the $1000 price money. There will also be a workshop on gender with the female dancers.
