High rated Bulawayo hip hop artists are set to perform at the Jibilika Dance Festival grand finale which kicks off this morning in the City of Kings and Queens.
The artists including CAL_VIN, Spinx, MboMahocs, AWA and Flowsick will complete the festival programing which includes a cypher, dance workshops and the dance competition that will take place tomorrow.
Jibilika festival director Plot Mhako said, “CAL_VIN real name Calvin Nhliziyo, is a rap artist and producer. He comes to the festival on the back of his smash hit Z’khuphan which has a remix that features South African hip hop sensation Cassper Nyovest.”
Spinx real name LeeroyBrittain, is a 28 year old graffiti artist, born and bred in Bulawayo. He is the co-founder of Tune Kru and a pioneer of Zimbabwe graffiti. He has worked at Hifa, Shoko, Doadoa festival in Uganda. “Spinx aims to change society’s perspective over graffiti. Having started the art in 2003 he and his crew have been doing community outreach sessions in Bulawayo using hip hop elements such as bboyin, beatboxing, emceeing and graffiti for positive social impact among the youth,” said Mhako.
MboMahocs real name MbonisiMahonondo is a singer, fashionista, television presenter, model, actress and architect. She is a young achiever who has fallen in love with media and is known for hosting the television show Bulawayo Swagg. Miss Mahocs will be hitting the airwaves this September at Skyz Metro FM.
AWA real name,AwakhiweSibanda is the fastest rising female hip hop MC whose sharp cutting feminine laced lyrics have turned heads and won hearts. Her unique ability to mix traditional and urban music has led to the birth of a new genre ‘’Cultural Hip Hop’’.
FlowSick real name Tinashe Rodrick a spoken word artist, hip hop MC, fashionista. In 2007 his dance crew K-Otics took part in the hip hop category at the inaugural Jibilika Dance Festival. In 2012 he was the MC for the festival and played a pivotal role in kick starting the Step Up 2 HIVinitiative.
Other artists to perform include dancehall and hip hop artist TinasheMaravanyikaa.k.aNashie and rapper Pritchard Kasomalia.k.aTeekoLugoobrious.
