President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the government of the Republic of Zimbabwe have honoured the late Stephen Chifunyise with a state assisted funeral in recognition of the eminence of his contribution to so many facets of Zimbabwean nationhood, family representatitive Dennis Chifunyise has said.
The late Stephen Chifunyise made huge contributions as a senior civil servant, educationist, artist, international cultural expert, writer, social commentator, nation builder, committed pan African and Zimbabwean patriot, to mention but a few of his attributes.
“The Chifunyise family, artists and the whole creative sector wishes to thank the President and government for this recognition and support. Despite his humility and modesty, Stephen will be proud and deservedly so. Meanwhile there will be a celebratory and send off service at Theatre in the Park starting at 15:00hrs on Thursday 8 August 2019. All are invited as artists, friends and colleagues will gather to pay their last respects in the best way we know how, through performance, music and dance,” said Daves Guzha, the Director of Theatre in the Park.
Stephen’s body will lay in state at his family home at 41 Edinburgh Road, Vainona on Thursday. Burial will take place on Friday 9 August, 2019 at Greendale Cemetery at 12:30hrs. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
